Hydrolytic stability of polyetherimide investigated in ultrathin films

چکیده
Abstract Increasing the surface hydrophilicity of polyetherimide (PEI) through partial hydrolysis imide groups while maintaining length main-chain was explored for adjusting its function in biomedical and membrane applications. The outcome polymer analogous reaction, i.e., degree ring opening chain cleavage, is difficult to address bulk microstructured systems, as these changes only occur at interface. Here, reaction studied air–water interface using Langmuir technique, assisted by atomic force microscopy vibrational spectroscopy. Slow PEI sets pH > 12. At = 14, nearly instantaneous. Reduction layer viscosity with time 14 suggested moderate cleavage. No observed 1. Hydrolyzed films had a much more cohesive structure, suggesting that nanoporous morphology can be tuned via hydrolysis. Graphic abstract

Magnetic stability of ultrathin FeRh films
This paper presents magnetic properties of highly ordered ultrathin FeRh films deposited on Si/SiO wafers with MgO as a buffer layer. The antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic (FM) transition is observed with a thickness as low as 3 nm. However, as the thickness decreases, the residual magnetization (Mrs) at low temperature increases and the amplitude of the transition decreases. In addition, the ...
متن کاملStructure and stability of ultrathin Fe films on W(110)
The growth of one and two atomic layers of iron on a W(110) substrate was followed by low-energy electron microscopy. The near-surface structural properties of the perfectly flat pseudomorphic films were studied by quantitative low-energy electron diffraction analysis from areas of uniform thickness as well as by the density functional theory. A strong relaxation of the outermost atomic layers ...
متن کاملWrinkling of Ultrathin Polymer Films
This paper presents a bilayer model to account for surface effects on the wrinkling of ultrathin polymer films. Assuming a surface layer of finite thickness, effects of surface properties on the critical strain, the equilibrium wavelength, and the wrinkle amplitude are discussed in comparison with conventional analysis. Experimental measurements of wrinkling in polymer films with thickness rang...
متن کاملSPR of Ultrathin Organic Films
Surfaceplasmonresonance (SPR) methods are surface-sensitive spectroscopic techniques that can be used to characterize a variety of ultrathin organic monolayers and multilayers at gold, silver, and copper surfaces. For example, SPR measurements have been used to study Langmuir-Blodgett films {1-3), selfassembled organic monolayers (4,5), specifically and nonspecifically adsorbed biopolymers (inc...
